As a Physical Security Specialist, this position is responsible for administering and supporting the entire Fifth District by managing a Regional Electronic Key Management System (EKMS). Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Identifying the COMSEC requirements based upon the type of communications systems installed, type of overt and covert operations, and technical and administration directives issued by a higher authority to ensure the mission accomplishment, and to verify that physical and information security regulatory requirements are identified prior to issuance and use of material. Analyzing and evaluating reports of COMSEC incidents; and prepares oral and/or written reports, decisions, conclusions or recommendations from local, Regional and requesting commands. Providing guidance in the operation and administration of their respective Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) duties and actions associated with the receipt, handling, issue, safeguarding, accounting, and disposition of COMSEC material assigned to their respective accounts or to the CAMSLANT account. Serving on natural work groups that define and standardize Global KMI (Key Management Infrastructure) procedures for the Coast Guard, developing and assisting in the implementation plans for applying the results of such work groups within the Coast Guard and regional organizations. Inspecting the Regional facilities for compliance and regulations, doctrine, and COMSEC/PHYSEC/INFOSEC/OPSEC policies. To qualify for the GS-12:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular competencies or knowledge, skill or ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Interpreting regulations for disclosure of sensitive and classified materials; Analyzing and resolving facility safety or security problems; Updating security directives, regulations, manuals, guidelines or procedures; Drafting policy and procedural materials for disseminating to field or operating level components. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience):
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
