TITLE: Produce Clerk
BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: Sets up and maintains the condition of the produce department according to company standards. Provides customer service and ensures product quality and selection.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast, friendly customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
Performs receiving duties including: verifying orders against invoices, reporting shortages and claims to ensure proper billing, breaking down loads and dating product. Cuts cases, stacks, prices, and marks merchandise. Maintains produce storage area.
Trims, cuts, wraps, trays, displays and waters produce. Prevents shrink, damage and spoilage of product. Builds produce displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product to ensure freshness and quality. Ensures proper pricing and signing of products. Uses related equipment such as knives, wrappers, scales, compactors, garbage disposals, hand trucks and pallet jacks.
Maintains cleanliness of work area, storage area, and selling floor. Ensures a safe and secure work environment. Maintains the eye-appeal of the department.
Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity.
In some stores, may be responsible for salad bar duties and/or watering and maintaining plants and flowers.

SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good communication skills.
Ability to frequently reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 75 lbs. Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to operate related equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math, and weights and measures. Ability to learn taste, proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and perishability of product, and department policies and procedures.
Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Hands are in frequent contact with water and various fruits and vegetables while performing job duties.
