Position Description

Serco is hiring a Advanced Marine Shipfitter to be part of a dynamic team supporting our US. Navy Ships with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in the beautiful surroundings in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Serco supports our US Naval Ships with successful and safe work by providing cabling, equipment, and C5ISR system installations for our Military. You will join an amazing team to fabricate, and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies by applying appropriate safety techniques.
You will also play a critical role in ensuring that successful and safe work is performed on-board U.S. Naval Ships and our Military installations, which is vital to our Mission to protect and serve our Military.
In the Advanced Marine Shipfitter role, you will:
Interpreting specifications, drawings, blueprints, shop job orders and, process sheets.
Using a variety of ARC and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as foundations, cable collars,
cable/pipe/vent hangers, cable tubes penetrations, studs, etc.
Performing related task such as thermal cutting (PLASMA or TORCH) and grinding
Having knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Training new shop personnel on machinery, tools and test equipment required for quality construction of products and assigning work to qualified personnel.
Performing onboard U.S. Naval Ships and military installations requiring the ability to work in areas with drafts, noise, and temperature variation.
Able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
Lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will:
Have a High School Diploma or equivalent
Have a minimum of 5 years of Marine Shipfitting experience
Be familiar with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures
Get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift
Be willing to work second or third shifts and more than 40 hours per week as needed
Be willing to supervise shipfitting contracts onboard US Naval Vessels
Have a clear understanding of Shipboard Work Authorization Form (WAF) in support of Lock-out/Tag-out procedures
Be willing to travel up to 50% to various work sites.
Be able to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
Be able to lift 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position.
Have attention to safety (which is critical)
Be able to obtain gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
Additional desired experience and skills:
A DoD Secret Clearance.
An OSHA 10 certification
Shipboard experience
