43 depending upon qualifications Job Description The Chesapeake Public Library (CPL) is seeking an outgoing, enthusiastic and detail-oriented part-time Library Assistant II, who has a passion for public service, exemplary customer service and organizational skills to perform library/clerical work at any public service desk (Circulation, Adult Services, or Youth and Family Services (YFS)) but primarily in the Circulation Department in a busy area library.
The Library Assistant II will:
Provide complex paraprofessional services at the public services desk using printed and electronic sources to assist with public computers, public access catalogs, copiers, faxes, A/V equipment, eReaders, and locating library materials.
Ability to handle various forms of tender and cash registers; point of sale machines; some knowledge of reconciling money; and process fees, fines, sales, and donations.
Provide reader's advisory and job help assistance.
Promote services and programs using approved social media websites.
Monitor computer usage and maintain customer accounts via automated time, money, and circulation management systems.
Communicates orally and in writing in both Spanish and English.
Performs a triage function, funneling reference questions requiring interpretation to the Librarian.
Translates library informational material into Spanish including program flyers, policies, procedures and lists of library materials.
Interprets for Spanish-speaking patrons throughout the library working directly with the staff and library patron.
Participate in CPL system-wide committees.
Perform other related duties as assigned and assist at all service points as needed.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires one year of college in liberal arts or library science or any equivalent combination of education and customer service experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this position requires a minimum of six months related, full-time equivalent library or customer service experience.
Six months' public library experience preferred.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards depending on department.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or city-wide emergencies.
Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently.
Experience with Automated circulation systems highly desired.
Public library related experience desired.
Experience working with computers is highly desirable.
Comfortable with learning and demonstrating usage of computers,Internet, library catalog, eReaders, eBoooks, research databases, e-mail, photocopiers, and fax machines.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
